At many weddings, the cake feels like the boundary between the formal part and the real party. That is why couples ask whether a dance show should come before the cake, after it or in a separate part of the programme. The right answer depends on the room, audience, timing and role of the moment.

Five reference points

  1. After the cake: useful for relaunching the party when attention is already gathered, but the show should stay short if the evening is late.
  2. Before the cake: useful when energy has fallen, provided service and photography do not compete with the moment.
  3. Between music blocks: a flexible bridge when the DJ and organiser know what follows.
  4. The venue: confirm floor space, entrance route, lighting and who clears the floor.
  5. The DJ and photographer: confirm the exact cue and positions so the visual moment is not missed.

Keep a plan B

Wedding schedules often move. A good show should have two or three acceptable windows instead of one rigid point. See wedding dancers or use availability checking when the date and venue are set.
